Our Fellows
In addition to traditional workshop formats, MeReX hosted fellows for in-depth discussions on representation, computation, and mechanistic explanation.

2026: Prof. Frances Egan and Prof. Gualtiero Piccinini
In February 2026, MeReX met with Frances Egan and Gualtiero Piccinini for two days of discussion on representation, computation, and mechanistic explanation. The meetings focused on clarifying shared assumptions and disagreements, especially concerning the relation between causal structure and representational content, and provided a valuable opportunity to develop the project through direct adversarial collaboration.
2025: Prof. Oron Shagrir
In February 2025, MeReX met with Oron Shagrir to discuss Chapter 9 of his book "The Nature of Physical Computation" and the idea of computing as modeling. The discussion focused on the relation between computation, representation, and explanation in cognitive neuroscience, and helped us clarify how computational explanations may contribute to mechanistic accounts.
